Dear colleagues, You might already have noticed the lovely country odor in the PlantS Facility (so far GMI location only). It originates from the new soil batch. We are in contact with the supplier; however, we are not sure if all bags are affected. If in doubt, please feel free to open a new bag. Due to the strongly fluctuating quality of the ED63 substrate, we will test four different Klasmann Substrates during summer. Details will follow in time. Adjustments on automated watering system

COST Short term scientific missions<http://www.cost.eu/service/glossary/STSM> (STSM) provide access to labs throughout Europe and beyond<http://www.plant-phenotyping.org/management_participants_costfa1306> for young and promising scientists (PhD students in the last year and early career investigators (ECIs, PostDocs less than 8 years after PhD) in order to get introduced and trained with respect to novel technologies of plant phenotyping (on a whole plant and molecular level, as well as integrative approaches). This COST action provides access to a network of phenotyping experts and serves as a platform to get acquainted with this interdisciplinary field by practical training in experienced labs and interdisciplinary communication. The APPN initiative aims to unite the Austrian plant phenotyping community in order to facilitate research collaborations, development of plant phenotyping infrastructure and methodologies, staff training, staff exchange and networking activities. The first meeting will give you the unique opportunity to present and discuss your research in a highly multidisciplinary environment. We intend to bring together biologists, breeders, technology developer, imaging experts, statisticians and bioinformaticians. The APPN community will also serve as a national node for the EMPHASIS project which is on the roadmap of ESFRI (European Strategic Forum for Research Infrastructure).
