Dear Colleagues, I am pleased to announce my "Bash shell scripting course". I will teach you how to write Bash scripts to automate common tasks in a UNIX/Linux environment. This course is especially recommended to those colleagues who (plan to) use the CBE cluster, but note that CLUSTER-SPECIFIC TECHNIQUES WILL NOT BE COVERED. For details please check out https://training.vbcf.ac.at/training/bash.php . TOPICS: - How to work with data? Variables, arrays, shell arithmetics. - When to do what? Logical decisions ("if" statement). Repeat if necessary: iteration loops. - Code organisation with Bash functions. - Know where your data are: file path manipulations. - Make user-friendly scripts: command-line argument processing, simple text-based menus. DATE/TIME: Thursday 16th October, from 09:00 to 13:00. ATTENDANCE: Physical only because I cannot correct typos remotely :-). Location: IMP E-016 seminar room. PREREQUISITES: - Familiarity with the UNIX command line. You will develop several scripts during the course so let's keep the number of typos to a minimum :-) - Programming knowledge is NOT required, I will explain everything. COST: Free of charge.
