Hyperspectral root imaging system available at the BOKU
On behalf of Gernot Bodner: Dear root research-, imaging and phenotyping colleagues, Finally we have established our "Hyperspectral root imaging system" at BOKU. The system allows imaging of plant roots up to more advanced development stages (about 1 meter rooting depth) in the near infrared range (900-1700 nm; 256 bands) and provides a spatial resolution of 0.1 mm. https://plantmethods.biomedcentral.com/articles/10.1186/s13007-018-0352-1 The NIR imaging particularly allows comparatively high resolution water mapping in the root zone to study water uptake/depletion of single root axes; potentially the spectral features can be used to detect a range of different chemical properties of root and soil encoded in spectral features.
