Dear all, It is a great pleasure to invite you to the 2nd Austrian Plant Phenotyping Network (APPN<http://www.appn.at/>) Meeting which will take place on the 17th & 18th of April 2018 at the BOKU Vienna and Tulln. This year we will be joined by the European Plant Phenotyping Network (EPPN2020<https://eppn2020.plant-phenotyping.eu/>). The meeting will give you the unique opportunity to present and discuss your research in a highly multidisciplinary and international environment. We also offer a technical workshop on root phenotyping, including a field visit. We intend to bring together biologists, breeders, technology developer, imaging experts, statisticians and bioinformaticians. The keynote lecture will be given by Michelle Watt, Scientific Director of the Institute of Bio- and Geosciences, Plant Sciences (IBG-2) Jülich, followed by EPPN2020 Speakers, selected talks and a poster session in the Festsaal at BOKU Vienna. An accession panel of B. distachyon was screened under, control, drought, heat, and drought and heat conditions and the resulting imaging data was examined for traits that approximate water-use-efficiency, biomass accumulation, and tissue senescence. Bio Malia Gehan, Ph.D. is an Assistant Member and Principal Investigator at the Donald Danforth Plant Science Center, who focuses understanding mechanisms of crop resilience under temperature stress. To study temperature stress and natural variation, her lab uses a number of high-throughput and high-resolution image-based phenotyping technologies. She co-developed and maintains the open-source open-development suite of image analysis tools, PlantCV. Ways to bridge the gap between lab and field experiments Outline: Plants grown under controlled conditions (growth chamber, glasshouse) may not necessarily be phenotypically similar to those growing in the field. In this webinar I will discuss 6 issues. 1. How similar/different are plants from lab and field in a range of traits? 2. What are the environmental conditions applied in lab and field, with special emphasis on the photo-thermal ratio (daily amount of light / temperature). 3. The consequences this has for a plant's physiology. 4. What is the effect of plant density (which is much higher in the field) on individual plant performance? 5. For the workshop, PHENOSPEX will visit the VBC with their new PlantEye F500 device and perform multispectral 3D scans of your samples. Your plants will be grown at the VBCF PlantS Facility and scanned one day before the workshop. Therefore, we need to receive your seeds in advance (deadline_1). Hands-on data analysis will be performed during the workshop - follow-up discussion of derived results will be discussed on the second day in individual meetings. “PlantEye F500 is a 3D laser scanner combined with multispectral information. It generates 3D point clouds of plants in high resolution and combines it on the fly with a 4-channel multispectral camera in the range of 400-900nm.
